There are more than 400 Local Authorities in the UK with an annual budget of more than £160 billion per annum. More than 2 million people work in Local Authorities and they provide more than 700 different services including education, leisure and social services.
Local government in the UK is organised in two different ways. In Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and in some parts of England (Unitary, Metropolitan or London Borough) there is a single tier council responsible for all services and functions. The remainder of England has a two-tier system, in which responsibility for services is divided between district and county councils.

Lovell Johns has worked with numerous Local Authorities to provide mapping and GI services. Some of the products and services we have provided include hardcopy and interactive web Proposals Maps, data capture services, bespoke leisure maps and GIS analysis.
